The falling tide is often overlooked, but it is actually one of the best times to catch redfish in the Biloxi Marsh. As water drains from the marsh, baitfish and crustaceans get funneled into deeper channels and holes. Redfish follow this food source, staging at the edges waiting for an easy meal. Look for areas where the marsh transitions from shallow grass flats to deeper bay water. These edges concentrate fish, especially during the last hour of the falling tide. A gold spoon worked wonders, but so did a simple Carolina-rigged crab. The key is to present your bait right at the bottom of the drop-off. We landed 25 reds last week, with the biggest around 28 inches.
